Going Down

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

Uncharted waters, let's leave the helm behind

We're going under, we're going under

Lower the periscope, cover the compass We're so lost that nothing but love can find us

The stars, the stars aren't out tonight

The sea is dark and deeper than I can fathom

And there is everywhere left to hide

Will we show ourselves

Before we hit the bottom

The truth is terrifying

No wonder we keep sleeping

Hoping that someone else will come and save us

Let's dive in deeper now and find a new place to trust

And open up the heart under cover of darkness

The stars, the stars aren't out tonight

The sea is dark and deeper than I can fathom

And there is everywhere left to hide

Will we show ourselves

Before we hit the bottom

If we're going down, I'm still up for planting seeds in the garden If we're going down, I'm still up for joy and gratitude and wonder

If we're going down, I'm still up for showing children that they matter

If we're past the point of no return

I still want to learn how to make peace with power

The warrior deep inside, almost lost in the glare

From all the lights that try to keep us from looking

If you listen closely, you will hear her calling out

The words you thought that you would always remember

I am scared, but I am willing to try

I was built for courage and for kindness

Do you remember when we used to shine

And there was nothing that could ever blind us

If we're going down, I'm still up for dancing like a crazy fool

If we're going down, I’m still up for finding beauty in the chaos

If we're going down, I'm still up for grieving all that we’ve lost

If we're past the point of no return

I still want to learn how to make peace with power
